Our History

Red Oak Grove Church was formally organized in 1870 in Floyd County. The original church building was torn down in 1905, and construction began on the present building. Logs were cut from the church grove, and oxen pulled the logs to the sawmill. The original features of the church included a large rock furnace for cooking communion beef and heating water, and a place for those to stay the night after communion services.

In 1953, the church was remodeled with a basement and Sunday School rooms, and a new oil furnace was installed. Later restrooms were installed and eventually, the choir lofts were added to the church.

In recent years (2012) the Fellowship Hall was built next to the church building where the picnic shelter used to stand.

Through all the changes and time, members of Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren have stood strong in faith and their beliefs.
